Type Specimen: Trade Gothic
For this project, I was given the task to create a type specimen book for Trade Gothic.
Trade Gothic is a sans serif created by Jackson Burke, who was the director of Typographic Development at Mergenthaler Linotype. It was influenced by Akzidenz-Grotesk, and it influenced Trade Gothic Next.
The inspiration that led me to my final product was this moodboard that I created after researching. I discovered that Trade Gothic is more irregular than the other Gothic fonts. It has spacious counters, which makes it a popular choice for books, magazines, and newspapers. Trade Gothic condensed is often used for headlines.
