Wallflower (局外人)

Somewhere in the midst of a bustling Hong Kong, there lies an abandoned space between
high rise buildings refusing to touch. In this darkness, only dust and gravel remains.

The constant itch to do something about that had been sitting with me for months. I wanted so badly to connect this distance and marry a bond between the expanse. The opportunity finally came in the form of a collaborative art installation between me and my dear friend, Crystal Tam.

This project was a reflection on the claustrophobic spaces of Hong Kong and a representation of the people in its vicinity. Although everything seems packed so tightly, it seems we still keep ourselves distant from one another. We face being around others so constantly that it has worn down the need for deeper connections. Our interpretation was meant to bring awareness of this issue.

In our last collaboration was two years ago, but we revived our past efforts to translate that same clean look into a different visual; still retaining sharp reds accented by reflective silvers. The palette provoked boldness to that dull space, but the flowers were later added to echo the organic textures of the gravel walls.
