The Nesting Dolls and the Blue Necklace

This children's book was written and illustrated by Samuel Landis. It was inspired out of a psychology class project where we spent several weeks journaling and analyzing our dreams. Then we were to communicate the simplified theme/message of one dream in the format of a children's storybook. The theme of the dream was injustice, and I chose to tell the story through a family of nesting dolls because I believe that themes can often be easier to understand when transferred on to non-human characters. The story approaches injustice in a way that is simplified and easier for children to comprehend. Who as a child has not lost an item and then falsely blamed their friend or sibling of stealing it? Yet often this theme plays out in our adult lives in similar ways where we stereotype or place false assumptions on a person or
people-group without doing our own investigations.
