Pochampally of Andhra Pradesh is an Ikat weaving cluster that specializes in fine cotton and silk with a characteristic checkered pattern for saris and traditional Indian attire. Their colour palette is limited and patterns are traditional with small motifs in both warp and weft Ikat.
This collection is an attempt to create product diversification by moving away from their traditional design vocabulary
towards larger, geometric patterns of a more minimal, graphic nature in fresh colours. We introduced them to a heavier count cotton yarn (2/20s x 2/20s) to weave upholstery and soft furnishings instead of apparel.
Simple and bold designs replaced the traditional smaller motifs, brighter colours replaced the usual maroon, black
and yellow, giving birth to a collection of 100% hand-woven cotton fabrics for upholstery, cushions and curtains.
These fabrics retain the essence of this beautiful craft without being dated and are perfect for the modern home.
