⸢ Black vultures need your care ⸣

Although the Project Life Habitat Lince Abutre has finished in 2014, it was important to continue the work for the eurasian black vulture recovery in Southern Portugal. Since then, the LPN - League for the Protection of Nature, the oldest Environmental NGO in the Iberian Peninsula) has developed an awareness campaign called "Black Vultures need your care" to talk about this cause and get the necessary financial support.

More information about this project
The Eurasian Black Vulture is Europe’s largest raptor, breeding mostly in woodlands in hilly areas and feeding on livestock and wild ungulate carcasses, thus being a key species in Mediterranean ecosystems. However, laws requiring farmers to collect dead animals for incineration resulted in food shortages and prevented its comeback in Portugal. Artificial nests and a network of feeding stations were recently introduced and the species started rebreeding after more than 40 years.
This project aims to resettle a breeding population of Black Vulture in Southern Portugal, keeping it sustainable and compatible with local economic activities such as farming, game hunting and eco tourism. It will continue feeding the vultures, provide veterinary care, monitor nest sites and improve natural habitats.

Participation in EOCA's International Voting
Twice a year, the European Outdoor Conservation Association (EOCA) asks help to fund projects with an interest in protecting or restoring wild spaces, species and habitats with a link to the outdoor user. The projects are put into 3 categories depending on their focus (Nature, Outdoor and Alpine) and the project in each category with the most votes will each gain funding of up to €30,000. LPN sent application with this project and it was shortlisted (twice!) in category Nature - projects concerned with the conservation of a specific species or habitat.
If this project wins EOCA voting...
Besides supplying the feeding stations, a hide will be built next to one of them where visitors may also see Griffon Vultures, Golden Eagles, and even Iberian Imperial Eagles. Information and tours will be given to locals as well as educational activities aimed at engaging local schools.

Facebook

I was asked to create 2 videos with 15 seconds each. The last one should recall to vote for "Black Vultures Recovery".
Videos are a good media, but in a bustle speed content consumption and a fast scroll in our news feed, a picture can convey the message in a second instead of the video that requires watching until the end and because of that, a lot of videos on Facebook just get our attention along and only in 1 second.
So I proposed a strategy of sharing posts with images with a short message.
Note: The images are square to have larger viewing area on the news feed. These could also be used in other social networks like Instagram and Twitter.

There is no action without a good storytelling. "Vote in black vulture conservation to receive financial support from EOCA" is a very direct message. It was necessary to get people involved, to make them feeling their vote is useful to conserve this species and makes a difference.
Many ideas flew in our minds. Since a girl with a desire to know all wonders of Portugal who travels the country to find and watch the largest bird of prey in Europe, the black vulture. Or an animation that tells in a fun way the power of YOUR vote in the lives of black vulture in southern Portugal.
Limited by time and resources, the video 1 that would be totally illustrated and animated had to be simplified.
As the black vulture is not a known species, why not thank for voting for black vultures with a presentation of the first chick of black vulture born in 40 years?
