RECLAIM[ED]: RECLAIMING HIDDEN MOMENTS IN BLACK HISTORY
In 2020 following the death of George Floyd, a considerable amount of attention became invested into African-American communities and the countless stories of many black Americans facing racial inequality. As part of MAIP, our team felt compelled to think about a way we can help support black communities, and our answer was through an educational app called Reclaim(ED).
We found enough reason to make this app in response to these statistics: only 8-9% of history class time is devoted to black history, and only in 5 states throughout whole U.S. is it required to teach African American history.
In response to this lack of education about Black History we wanted to create a more interactive way of learning/exploring history and to reclaim lost opportunities to educate. Our response was in creating an interactive, AR, geo-location based mobile app that would provide an equal opportunity for everyone to learn more about Black History.
Especially beyond the classroom and out into the real world.
