Concept Statement

The form of this lounge chair was inspired by the contrast of harsh geometric pattern and organic sensual curves. The fact that the curves are formed by the hard walnut wood, and the sharp geometric lines by soft leather cording adds depth to the design. Another design inspiration was objects that cast interesting shadows, and the open light form of the frame along with the strands of leather cord allow light to pass through creating detailed cast shadows.
The chair was designed to be a comfortable lounge chair to read in, and to be at home in a modern  home library sitting next to a fireplace. The following images show the design process of creating the lounge chair; from sketches, models, and raw walnut planks, to the finished lounge chair.
