Drafting for Interior Design Reflection

This assignment was due July 3, 2013 - our 7th week of class, just about half way through the semester. When I turned this assignment in, I was very proud of my work. I spent approximately two hours just trying to space plan sensibly for a married couple's master bathroom. I was unwilling to turn something in that I wouldn't want to live in myself.

When I saw my grade posted online I was surprised. I couldn't think of what I forgot to include or didn't do properly that could have resulted in me not receiving full credit - maybe it was a typo - I thought to myself. I picked up my assignment a few days later, and there they were, the ominous lines of the red pencil. It was no typo, it was a legitimate point deduction for rookie mistakes. I couldn't believe the little errors I allowed myself to make - a pocket door in the wrong side of the opening, incorrect spacing of the closet rods, and not giving walls proper thickness - things I should have easily detected when doing a final check of my work.

I vowed I would never let myself make such careless mistakes again. Since then I have been much better about critically reviewing my work before declaring it a "final draft". I have applied this idea in all three of my classes and I truly believe it has helped me reduce my incidents of point deductions. I have seen the quality of my work dramatically increase and overall I believe I am becoming a more creative and precise designer due, in part, to the lesson I have learned from this particular assignment.
