Blair Dixon JUN 2020 Portfolio Illustration and Graphic Design.

This is an artist spot light designed to look like an early internet job profile. Illustrations are not mine. This is just an example of layout design. I stuck with blocky sections to accomplish this. Most contributor spotlights try to stay consistent by using the same template for each contributor, however I think it's important to take each artist and their examples individually. Because of this I created an easily editable layout. Consistency is held in the shapes rather than the colors.
This is a product layout for a store I organized. It functions to clearly communicate to buyers what they get when purchasing this bundle.  The Theme was Urban Dark Mystery.
This is another product Layout for a different project. This had a theme of "sunny."  The series this project is based off of has a rural calm aesthetic to it. With this in mind I chose familiar textures and stuck with the warmer colors to keep the feeling consistent.
This is a promo illustration that also works as advertisement for a past project. The design is a direct reference to the series Durarara!! which this project celebrated. Both Design and Illustrative aspects are created by me. Within the narrative of the light novels, the main character uses an online chat room to rally people behind him and he gains large numbers of followers. We used the imagery in  our moderator applications as they had mirror intent.
This is a promotional illustration for an online zine project. The theme was power propaganda based around the villains of a certain anime. This is of course based off of the iconic Obama Hope poster. We used the attention from a real poster to boost the signal of our project and bring in more purchases. The idea and illustration are by me.
This is a Logo I made for a zine foundry called Amphoric Zines. Designed and animated by me. They chose the Amphora because it is known for it's two handles and they were a two person team. It became very important that the silhouette remained highly legible. In contrast amphoras tend to be highly decorated, so as long as the details stayed in the silhouette an abundance of ornament can be utilized without taking away from the intent.
The two images above are from my study abroad in Japan. I closely observed and analyzed aspects of the locations of Tokyo and Teshima and then created these characters and design plates. Cultural research such as study of the traditional emaki, as well as physical experience such as sound and sight were used to create design choices. Both lates utilize photo editing from photos taken on site. Color palette, clothe material, expression/stance and plate design were all chosen specifically to the experience I had while exploring Japan.
The above is a mock editorial illustration I was assigned in college. I taught myself how to animate it (this is my first crack at animating ever it's a little janky). The general premise was to talk about heart attacks without overwhelming the audience while also facing the issue at hand with the appropriate serious tone. I made this illustration after analysis of what having a heart attack would be like. I came to the conclusion that surviving a heart attack is like sleeping with a monster under your bed. You can't see it but you know it's there, it's the kind of thing that's in the back of your mind and keeps you up at night.
These are some book cover designs I've illustrated. I typeset for all besides Liberation which was a collaboration with another designer online. I rarely collaborate on book covers because the way the illustration is read with the text is very important and it's more cohesive if one person does it. Liberation was made look like a forbidden tomb though. Additionally the text won't actually be readable the way it is. It will be produced in spot gloss. The illustration and the type were fairly separate. Although we still sent multiple drafts back and forth to make sure it was as good as it could be. The top row were hand illustrator/painted. Rebellion in Gold was made using vector.
These are some of the assets to my brand as well as some merchandise and promotional items I've produced, designed, and illustrated.
This is a social media banner for a YouTube I'm currently working with. I was hired to establish brand, and make graphics. We went with a more sterile clean technology look. We used blue because trust is of upmost important to the client. He is also very calm and rational. We narrowed down type faces down to be sans serif with modern ornamentation that flourish in a small way.
This is a master study that focuses on anatomy. While much more illustration related than graphic design I believe it's important to note my visual analysis and attention to detail. All the nuances in musculature and the skeleton were the main focus. While other chose standing poses with less bend. I specifically sought out a back face pose with foreshortening so I could really understand the spine and the muscles in space.
