BLANKET MINE LOGO ANIMATION


PROJECT BREAKDOWN
After a bit of research and story-boarding (skipped from this post) had gathered key resources, one in this case. I had to model a simplified version of the rig/platform
that is at the Blanket Mine Shaft.
The Platform is a simple model and did not take much time to complete. For the desired effect i deleted all the faces and converted the edges to curves, applied depth to the bevel settings, which meant i only had to animate the bevel start & end parameters, depending on direction and location of the particular part.
Then next was to model and animate the excavator, well every
mining firm has one and it fitted well with my scene.
The model was pretty simple, low poly & with simple rigging plus inverse kinematics as demonstrated above.
The scene landscape
For the landscape i used the ANT Landscape tool that ships with blender, did a bit of touch-up using the sculpting tools. I duplicated the landscape and applied a wire-frame modifier.
SHADING AND LIGHTING
The lighting consisted of one sun and a few extra lights for highlights for the excavator
The materials had a Shader to RGB node for that NPR (non-physical render) or 2D look. Showed above is the composition of the orange shader.
The material for the landscape had some animation effects to it so had a semi advanced setup.
The wire-frame landscape had the same setup but with a higher emission.

FINAL SCENE SETUP
For the final scene I linked my animation to a new scene, above you can see the whole scene including the animation linked, this makes asset management much easier.
For the Final animation, i parented the whole scene to an empty just animated the scale on the x and z axis and sort of morphed the scene into a line which then was scaled to zero for the final underline transition.

The Blanket Mine logo had a particle system set up with the emission and lifetime of particles
set to match the desired timeline.
CAMERA ANIMATION
Camera animation i used Track To constraint to maintain focus with the focus object playing part in the opening animation, the follow through was simple location based key-framing.
