My dream job is to become a sportswear designer, and during these uncertain times in the world (May 2020) I thought all I can do is stay optimistic and create content with the extra time I now have. Unsure of the exact path one must follow to work as an apparel or sportswear designer, I decided to create a project which shows how I would work if I was fortunate enough to work in the industry. For this project I imagined I was a designer for Canada's most prolific soccer-specific sportswear brand, Toronto-based Inaria. I chose Inaria beacuse for me it would be both a dream come true and an honour to work with a brand passionate in soccer, like myself, in my own country of Canada, which has a very bright future for soccer, both on and off the pitch. This project is composed of two collections. The first collection is a retro apparel collection, using Inaria's original branding and logo from 1999, meant to capitalize on the current retro-style trends, as done by all major sportswear brands today. The second collection is specific to Inaria's most iconic club partner, the historic New York Cosmos. This collection includes both kits and training apparel using Inaria's current modern and classy branding and style, as well as a third kit and fan apparel collection using Inaria's retro branding. With this project I not only wanted to showcase my designs, but most importantly my design and thought process, also showing how I think the brand can grow its brand awareness in Canada, and the world, and ultimately become a staple brand of Canadian sportswear.
