Hello,
I have chosen five key projects that I feel best demonstrate my skillset and understanding of space and place making, I hope this will demonstrate my creative yet strategic skills that will enable me to have a successful career within both Urban Design and Planning. I have displayed each of the projects on individual 'hand-out' style sheet to summarise the concepts and developments.
This project was a redevelopment of Plymouth waterfront. The aim was to reactivate the waterfront with attention to activity and industry. This was a place making task, that allowed for research into heritage to understand the site's history. This enabled me to draw on it's set backs while looking at its access routes to more popular surrounding sites and attractions and begin to understand why it was not being inhabited in the same way.
This is a live project I took part in, I worked as part of a small team who won the opportunity to present our ideas to a client snd eventually build our proposal. We had to have many different consultations with the school staff and also the children, to really help us understand the client. My small team proposed our idea and we were lucky enough to get chosen by the client to build it and see it used by the children.
This is part of my final major project. A temporary redevelopment of a Plymouth street to minimise the need and desire for cars and prioritise pedestrians. I have focused on the research and analysis I carried out for my dissertation, understanding healthy and sustainable cities, taking inspiration from the Dutch.
My dissertation focuses on improving the walkability of British cities; reversing the existing hierarchy within the street scene, between the motorist and pedestrian. It takes precedent from other European cities such as Amsterdam.
