INKTOBER 2018
A few hilights from my 2018 attempt at Inktober. I chose "Funfair" as a subtheme for the challenge.
Day 1
Prompt: "Poison"

I wanted a strong opening image. A promise of the oddities within my funfair. I went with the idea of having to "Pick your poison" from a mysterious gypsy upon entering. Sometimes, the poison is not the obvious choice.
Day 4
Prompt: "Spell"

I wanted to expand on a concept I was very excited about at the time: an "electronic" ice-cream. Since it wouldn't really fit into the "fun fair" subtheme I chose to go with the idea of being hypnotised into buying ice-cream at the fair. Ice-creaming Jay Hawkins was born!
Day 5
Prompt: "Poison"

Still fascinated by the electronic ice-cream idea (see day 4), I chose to borrow the concept of converting something organic into something electronic and mechanical to serve a different purpose.
Day 7
Prompt: "Exhausted"

A strange fun fair will, of course, have some strange amenities! Just a bit of a humourous play on the word exhausted.
Day 13
Prompt: "Guarded"

What could be worth guarding at a fun fair? A homonculus is a good start! I'm a big Tom Waits fan, so I went straight for the Eyeball Kid. I was experimenting with dip pens at the time, and so used smudging to gritty up the scene a bit.
Day 17
Prompt: "Swollen"

This was one of those prompts that were a bit trikier to properly integrate into the fun fair subtheme. The concept is quite absurd, but then so is my fun fair, and they need advertising and revenue too!
Day 7
Prompt: "Exhausted"

A strange fun fair will, of course, have some strange amenities! Just a bit of a humourous play on the word exhausted.
Day 24
Prompt: "Chop"

How to make a chop strange, fun and related to a fun fair........hmmmmm......... BBQ anyone?
Day 25
Prompt: "Prickly"

One of the best parts of amusement parks and fun fairs for me, is the presentation of an attraction's overarching theme. If the sign at the entrance of an attraction is right, it can plange the viewer into the story before he's even in it. Would you trust Prickly Pete?
Day 26
Prompt: "Stretch"

Went pretty far out for this one! I do that sometimes, if I'm left to my own devices.
Day 29
Prompt: "Double"

This was a very tough prompt to fit into my subtheme. So I went a bit more with abstract conceptual, and focused on creating more of a 50's visual feel.
Day 30
Prompt: "Jolt"

Not sure what to say about this one. I was tired, buit it was fun to draw, it came out well, and I like the absurdity of the concept. Jolt is also not the easiest thing to illustrate in a fun fair theme.
Day 31
Prompt: "Slice"

Perhaps the poison you picked upon entering the fair is affect you, but this magician seems to be legitimately slicing ballons. Perhaps it's time to appreciate all the day's craziness and head on home.
