FLAG REDESIGN
For this project, we were tasked to redesign a state and city flag. Since I am from Washington, I have chosen to redesign the Washington state flag and Seattle city flag.
This design uses the color of gold to represent Seattle’s city flower the dahlia. Yellow is also used to highlight the rich culture and diversity found within the city. The lone white triangle represents one of Seattle's natural beauties¨ Mount Rainier. The seven diagonal lines represent the seven hills Seattle was founded on. The color blue is used to represent the ocean and sound that surround Seattle¨ also highlighting the tourism the city brings in because of it. Seattle is home to Boeing, the company with the biggest building in the world. Their company color is also blue.
The green background used in this design represents the economic and environmental success that Washington fosters. The blue is used the represent the ocean, sound and glaciers that surround the state’s coast. The sound is important because not only does it drive the economy, it also serves as freshwater habitats, an endangered habitat. The triangle used references the Olympic National Park found in Washington. Gold is another one of Washington’s state colors, also representing prosperity.
