This is a typeface specimen book for Avenir Next by type designer Adrian Frutiger. From the first time I saw this font, its simplicity immediately reminded me of sail numbers. As a sailing instructor, it is pertinent that numbers and names on boats are easy to read even from afar, so simplicity is the winner. This typeface style is simple and versatile, which is the style I wanted to show throughout the book. I made the deliberate design decisions to maintain simplicity while showing interesting, complex features and views of different boats. Imagery of these boats conveys the calm yet complicated boat systems. Avenir Next is so versatile and simple that it matches well with calm and complicated.
