"isolation" Painting Series

"isolation" painting series
This is a series of ink paintings completed during April 2020, during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.

They are inspired by calligraphy, sumi-e (ink wash paintings), uncertainty, and fluidity. I used automatic pens, a paintbrush, and black sumi ink.

The theme was feelings of isolation arising from lockdown orders around the world. We were all being asked to the same thing (isolate ourselves from others to prevent infection), which should unite us, yet the very thing we are asked to do together drives us apart.

isolation III: Sea of Madness
