The Dock House
A lake house for a small family
The vacation house is a small part-time residence designed for a family with two children.  The plan and design of the vacation house is relatively simple to emphasize the simplicity of the surroundings and program.  The buildings form is thin and oriented east/west to allow for cross ventilation and plenty of controllable daylight.  The orientation also allows for ample views to the lake from anywhere in the house.

The material articulation indicates what program is taking place within the house.  On the west side of the house, the materials are heavier and anchor the home where the structure meets the ground plane.  Board-formed concrete is used on this side of the house because it has a rustic and heavy quality.  The east side of the house is just the opposite where the materials are much lighter and the floor plane cantilevers out over the water.  Here, large expanses of glass are used to open up the house in public spaces while wood accents resonate well with the surrounding forest.
