Tet Walk Booklet

Concept
—
Tet Walk is a product of culture fusion where the Vietnamese culture and the fashion world meet. During Tet, Vietnamese New Year, our kitchen turns into a runway backstage where our parents are the designers and the foods are the models. Pork is wrapped in a delicate “banh chung” dress, chicken is put in an exquisite “xoi gac” gown, and beef is given a stunning “gio bo” top. Every slice of carrot is cut and placed with the highest level of craftsmanship.
I created Tet Walk as the visual representation of this interesting similarity. Taking fashion publications as my references, I decided to present this project in the form of a look book pamphlet. As the viewers flip through it, they will see a collection of Tet dishes illustration with a twist. Here, the ingredients become the model while the dishes turn into the outfit. Through Tet Walk, I wish to present a novel and humorous interpretation of this valuable Vietnamese tradition.
Illustrations
—
Each illustration is constructed of the physical appearance of the dish and its main ingredient: pork and Chung Cake, Beef and Vietnamese Sausage, Chicken and Red Sticky Rice, and Fish and Stewed Fish. By doing this, even people with limited knowledge of Vietnamese food will have a general understanding of the subject matter.
Booklet
—
Tet Walk is designed as a perforated booklet in which each page can be removed and used as a postcard. A list of ingredients is written on the back of the postcard in correspond to each dish. This mimic the act of sharing and caring - values that are strongly emphasized during Tet holiday. The booklet is delivered in a die-cute postcard sleeve.
Pattern
—
The pattern is constructed by the minor ingredients in each dish such as egg, leek, and mushroom.
