Givenchy Fashion Showroom

Project Description: In a 1425 square foot space, we were assigned to renovate it into a fashion showroom. This building is in a turn of the century 1900 industrial building located in the Garment District in New York City on the fifth floor of the building. I had to design this fashion showroom for a contemporary haute couture fashion designer or design house. Assigned was to design an “attention getting” showroom. This showroom is used to display & sell merchandise to commercial buyers, these buyers come to see the latest collections by appointment.  This isn’t a retail store, more like a private gallery to display these fashion designs.

Concept Statement: Givenchy is the design house I chose to design this fashion showroom for. This design house has elegant, timeless design for very high end clientele. Hubert de Givenchy designed clothes for the very well known, Audrey Hepburn and created the “Little Black Dress” known for it’s simple beauty. Hubert de Givenchy believed strongly in simplicity as the designs were beautiful within itself without the unnecessary accessories. Givenchy gave Audrey Hepburn a personality through his designs. He made her one of the world’s most iconic fashion and film idols. This represents how fashion shapes women into who they are. My fashion showroom demonstrates the transition of how fashion changes us throughout the plan. When you first walk in, there are more straight angles that become curvilinear showing how fashion literally shapes women. I wanted to design a very dark, intimate showroom where the designs are accentuated and are the central focus. I related this detail to Givenchy’s latest design concept, Light in Darkness.
Human Behavior Statements:
1. I used dark spaces to create very intimate spaces.
2. Dimmed lights are used to promote relaxed environments and allow private conversations.
3. When you walk into the space, the curved walls in the back make you feel welcome.
Color Statement: The colors chosen for this space were mainly black with gold accents including white, brown and gray. I used black to represent intimacy, elegance, luxuriousness, boldness and it's sleek. Gold represents royalty, richness, value and is attention grabbing. White represents simplicity, contrast, adds highlight and a sense of space. Brown adds warmth and comfort as gray adds relaxation and relief.
