The meaning of the word 'Mandala' in Sanskrit is circle. Mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe. The circular designs symbolizes the idea that life is never ending and everything is connected.
In New Age art, Mandala is a diagram, chart or geometric pattern that represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically. Though it originally meant to represent wholeness and a model for the organizational structure of life itself, a cosmic diagram that shows us our relation to the infinite, the world that extends beyond and within our minds and bodies.
The inspiration for this stunning piece of Mandala art comes from Thangka Painting (Tibetan Buddhist Painting) as they are highly detailed and precision works of art. Though Thangka's are originally hand painted, the Mandala has been executed digitally using Adobe Illustrator. This customized mandala was created specifically for a South Indian Dine-In Restaurant based in Bangalore. A portion of this mandala (27 ft x 12 ft) fits snugly to the ceiling in the main service hall.
