Children's Recelox cough syrup

In Professor Van Wagoner's Graphic Design I (Fall 2019) class, this project combines application of the gestalt principle, branding, and packaging. We could choose to either recreate the logo and packaging of an existing product or create a product as a competitor brand.

I decided to design a cough syrup specifically for children. During my preliminary research, I noticed how complicated the packaging is for many of the available children's cough syrup and also how little to none of them have a mascot that invokes friendliness and approachability.

This project was included in my MICA admission portfolio.
Growing up, I hated drinking cough syrup. I have bad memories associated with Robitussin. If I were a parent, my ideal product to purchase would be one that has a happy mascot to encourage/validate it will bring good health to my child. If I were a child and I ABSOLUTELY needed cough syrup, I would ask my parents to "get the one with the purple elephant!"

The logo combines the silhouette of an elephant, a stethoscope, a girl with pigtails, and the face of a baby. I thought purple is a safe color to appeal to both girls and boys, and the addition of semicircles for eyes makes the elephant look happy.

The brand name, "Recelox", is the combination of the Latin words "recuro" and "celox", intending to mean "swift recovery".
