OLLIE THE OTTER AND THE "SLEEPING" FISH

This story is titled “Ollie the Otter and the “Sleeping Fish”. Ollie is an otter pup that lives in Singapore with his family. Along his daily hunting adventures, he encounters what he thought was a “big, sleeping fish”, and excitedly proceeds to eat it. He falls sick after ingesting the “sleeping fish”, and upon a doctor’s visit, finds out that the fish turned out to be a tied-up plastic bag that was left behind by humans. The story then unfolds with Ollie’s dad coming up with a new plastic- recycling and eco-cleaning campaign, encouraging citizens to participate and learn more about the importance of plastic recycling.

Based on my results through surveys and research, many adults feel that they should have started with educating about plastic usage + its ways to reduce or recycle them from a young age. After thorough research and brainstorming, I have come up with a method of using the under-utilized plastic codes (numbers indicating their types) along with implementing a color-based system that would be easily understood by kids.
This infographic addresses the various steps towards the recycling of plastic and its various types, and highlights the issue of Sustainability in Plastic Usage in Singapore. The infographic is an accompanying poster to the children's story book regarding plastics + recycling efforts as a means to introduce a new and easier method of recycling plastics to them.
