Concept design for a queue line experience for a new attraction based on Dreamworks’ Dragons franchise.
Strong visual images and storytelling were the main criteria. Specific operations and safety guidelines were taken into consideration for the design.
The concept was inspired by the feature film and the “Riders of Berk” animated series.
Story
Guests are new recruits at the Dragon Trainers Academy, where the young vikings continue to learn about dragons.

Concept
The Book of Dragons unfolds throughout the queue line, as guests walk through the Isle of Berk, preparing themselves for the adventure that awaits on the other side of Meade Hall.

Queue Layout
The Isle of Berk will tease guests’ senses as they explore different environments and discover evidence of the dragons that now live on the Viking island

This recreation of Berk is softer in style, to characterize a sense of safety and friendship.
Based on the information recorded in the “Book of Dragons”, the presence of the seven different classes of dragons is evident throughout the queue, even when guests can`t see them.
The Viking Village is the merging point for the stand-by and the express queues, working as a pulse point. Guests would get to watch the sand transform into Hiccup’s drawing of Toothless, which is the moment in the film where our heroes connect for the first time.
With Vikings and Dragons now at peace, Gobber’s role as weaponsmith is no longer needed. He decides to help out at Dragon Training by building a cart to provide all the necessary supplies to prepare the new recruits for their dragon training experience
