Agrasen ki Baoli, New Delhi, India
There is no clear historical record of when the magnificent Agrasen ki Baoli was built and by whom. However, many historians suggest that it was constructed during the period of Mahabharata by Maharaja Agrasen. Later in the 14th century, it was rebuilt by the people of the Agarwal community, known to be Maharaja Agrasen's descendants. The monument is divided into four levels, with 108 steep steps leading down to the well. From an architectural perspective, this step well was probably rebuilt during the Tughlaq era (1321-1414) or Lodhi's dynasty (1451-1526) reign over Delhi. Once a water reservoir, this ornate step well is an exquisite example of splendid architecture and ancient engineering skills.
