QIPU Installation Performance

QIPU Installation/Performance 2013
QIPU is an installation inspired on the Inka’s and other pre-hispanic cultures. Quipus were used as a well developed account system where different ropes and knots were tied for counting different products. It is also in research that they might have been used to tell stories or tales.
QIPU was shown for the first time during  La Noche en Blanco in Barranco, Lima 2013, the QIPU is around 10 meters high and 10 meters wide, made out of cabuya natural rope and hang it by the trees in a popular avenue of the district.
The installation shows a quipu in another perspective by changing dramatically its size and locating it in an urban space, where it is performed to make the knots, giving another view of pre- hispanic artefacts and inviting to have second thoughts about our history.
Beside the performance, 4 girls climbing on the ropes making the knots, the interaction with the people was well received, kids and adults took it as an addictive game of willing to climb the QIPU.
