Tiger Woods Ties PGA TOUR Wins Record

An alumnus of Baldwin Wallace University in Ohio, Peter Starr was an accomplished golfer in high school who earned medals in all 4 years, and was the first freshman in school history to be the top-ranked player on the team. Peter Starr has since played golf at several courses in Ohio and throughout the US, and has met several professionals, including Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods.

Woods' victory at Augusta National in the 2019 Masters was his 15th major tournament victory of his career, bringing him to within three of tying Jack Nicklaus for the all-time record at 18. Moreover, it was his 81st victory on the PGA TOUR, bringing him one tournament win away from tying Sam Snead's mark of 82 victories. Woods tied that mark several months later at the inaugural ZOZO Championship at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Japan, which was the first-ever PGA TOUR event in the country.

Woods maintained the lead throughout the duration of the four-round tournament and shot a final round score of 67 to secure a three-stroke victory over second-place finisher Hideki Matsuyama. Rory McIlroy and Sungjae Im tied for third place.

The fact that Woods is now one PGA TOUR victory away from becoming the all-time leader in that category is particularly impressive given he couldn't swing a club from 2014 to 2017. He underwent spinal fusion surgery in 2017, and wasn’t able to resume a full PGA TOUR schedule until 2018.
