British Rowing

In sport, statistics don’t lie. In the history of the Olympic Games, up to and including Rio 2016, the GB Rowing Team has won a total of 68 medals making them the most succesful British Olympic Organisation in history. Needless to say, designing for the British Rowing is an honour and a standout in my career.
British Rowing set a clear design objective. Create the most technical and inspiring rowing range, for both On Water, Training and Leisurewear apparel.

The initial research focused on British icons. Icons such as the British companies like British Airways, influential car brands like the Mini Cooper and Jaguar Land Rover and legendary sporting icons like Daley Thompson and the beloved England kit of 1980-83.

From the research, it was concluded that the design direction should be based around simple block shapes of the Union Jack. The block shapes should predominately be Royal and Red with main base colour being White to further enhance the viability of the Union Jack shapes and, therefore, increase the British visibility when the athletes are on the water.
Detailed product development and multiple sample testing resulted in Mizuno having the lightest (38g lighter than the previous British Rowing AIO) and most technical rowing range in the market, helping rowers to feel confident, on and off the water and to perform at their optimal best. Furthermore, Mizuno UK established itself as one of the leading suppliers of rowing apparel in the UK and increased the profile of the brand.
