Nadia Infantino's profile

Quad|Editorial Design

Quad portrays the raw, genuine, and often embarrassing daily lived-experiences of a quadriplegic. The overall aim of the story is to overcome the trauma associations of disability, and treat the disabled as normal people. The story thus takes on a Black humour tone resulting from comedy’s psychological function in overcoming trauma. The colour palette consists of acidic hues, in combination with stark black to effectively deliver the shock value of the story. Furthermore, the illustration style adds to the humorous nature of the text as the figures are exaggerated and not at all realistic in colour or form. The concept of the spine is central to the design of the book, as evident in the typographical layouts and the use of spiral binding, which emphasises the importance of the spine in the overall narrative.
