Crane's Crest Sample Booklet

This is a 12-page sample book of Papersmith & Son’s environmentally friendly paper range, Crane’s Crest. The interior of the booklet celebrates the paper and tells a story about its eco-friendliness. The sample book is also accompanied by an indoor poster, which shares a unified aesthetic.
Flat Renders of Sample Booklet
Research is done of the selected paper range, Crane’s Crest and the theme that is identified is the fact that is paper is made from 100% cotton, used from cotton materials that have been recovered from textile industries. This illustrated sample booklet visually depicts the paper’s eco-friendliness in the form of a narrative. An actual crane is illustrated where it goes through the cotton paper making process, step by step.
ORIGINAL ARTWORKS
Spread 1
The strategy for this project is to visually depict a crane executing a different step in the production process in each spread. Each illustration will also display textile surface designs to indicate that the paper is made from recovered cotton materials.
Spread 2
The specific target audience has been identified in the brief as art and creative directors of the top design and multimedia agencies, companies and studios in Johannesburg and Cape Town who are looking for an elegant, upper class and sophisticated paper range. The single minded message for this project is to communicate that the cotton paper production process is eco-friendly.
Spread 3
Each spread within the paper sample booklet will display a crane executing a different step of the cotton paper production process. The first spread displays an introduction of the protagonist, the crane, in this narrative.
Spread 4
The second spread displays the crane flying over a forest, ignoring the trees and looking for a cotton field, because the paper contains zero tree fibres. The third spread illustrates the crane collecting the cotton balls in a field. The fourth spreads illustrates the crane cleaning the cotton balls in the river, preparing it for the paper production process.
Spread 5
The fifth and final spread illustrates how the crane transforms the cotton material into the cotton paper. The crane is left white so the actual paper shows through when printed, this suggests that the crane becomes the paper. Textile patterns are created on each spread to further more support the concept that the paper is made from cotton material.
Front & Back Cover of Booklet
A European colour scheme is chosen, because the paper is very European. Dark backgrounds have been used to make the crane stand out in each spread. The front cover, as well as the indoor poster, contains all the elements that have been used inside the narrative.
