Frankenstein Book Design

The purpose of this project was to design a book around the story of Frankenstein Or the Modern Prometheus by Mary Shelley.

The graphics and illustrations throughout the book are used to emphasize the idea of distress that is a running theme throughout the story. The tearing symbolizes the feeling an individual goes through when placed in a difficult situation such as social displacement or struggles which is what the characters in the story undergo. The illustrations presented show what is involved in the chapter ahead but is torn to also allow the reader to wonder what the image is. Not all images are completely disfigured but they still leave a sense of anticipation to see what was missing in the chapter opener. As the reader continues, the chapter concludes with the missing piece of the image. The typography, Baskerville Display, used throughout the book, represents the sophistication that is held up despite the inner turmoil that the characters go through.
