For my ceramics project I created a cup and a plate. The cup has a thin handle and a square base with a foot on the bottom. The top rim of the cup has a carved pattern that can also be found on the sides of the matching plate. The plate also includes an identical foot. Both the cup and the plate are glazed a deep blue.
To make the cup, I started with a thin slab and created a cylinder shape. I then cut out four small triangles where I wanted each corner of the cup to be. I folded the sides in to get rid of the triangular cut-outs, creating the square base. I then added the bottom of the cup, the foot, and the handle. For the plate, I used a plaster mold to get the shape I wanted.
I am happy with the way my cup has turned out, but if I were to do anything differently, I would have layered on the glaze more to achieve a more consistent color all around the cup.
