For the Healing of the Nations

"...And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations."
For the last several weeks, I haven't been able to get leaves out of my head. It's been about six years since I listened - REALLY listened - to Revelation 22 for the first time (courtesy of The Bible Experience), but lately, this particular phrase has really been stuck in my head. I keep picking up leaves and staring at them; admiring their little veins, admiring the way they change color in the fall. I keep thinking about how leaves are designed to nourish a tree; how leaves absorb sunlight; how leaves can be used for medicine and shade. And I can't help but think that there are billions of leaves that grow on the Tree of Life, absorbing the Presence of God, day after day after day.

And someday, those leaves will be for the healing of the nations; for the healing of our broken hearts and our broken world.

Revelation 22: 1-5 "Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, as clear as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb, down the middle of the great street of the city. On each side of the river stood the tree of life, bearing twelve crops of fruit, yielding its fruit every month. And the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. No longer will there be any curse. The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever."
