Vice Project Moodboard- Good and Evil
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, acclaimed novel which is discussed still today. This psychological thriller outlines the fragile but nonetheless constant presence of two forces within all humans: good and evil. These two opposing ideals co-exist one with the other and form who we are. There are times when one of the two 'dominates' over the over and this is when we either commit outstandingly good or atrociously bad actions. This being said, both of them will always be part of us and shape our character. This is basically the baseline idea around which my project is based. My objective is in fact representing, through photography, the best and worst of us: seperate parts of ourselves that act independently but, on the otherside also collaborate in making us act or decide.
These images represent a moodboard of some of the shots which I looked at when being inspired to create my own version of this idea. After reading about the philosophy of Ying-Yang, which aligns well to the novel i first intrduced, I found visual representations of how I want my work to look like. These pictures resemble my idea in that they maintain simple light and dark elements which are clearly contrasted throughout photographic techniques. I will have to shoot in colour though and hence will need to provide actual black and white props, hair, make-up and clothing in order to achieve the look I want.
I have also been ispired by The Black Swan in both costume and makeup as it represents exaclty the duality I want to convey. The innocence and pureness which is portrayed in the image on the left is the exact opposite to the aggresiveness and maleficence of the second costume on the right. I may include feathers too. To further depict this idea, I will also use a wig with both white and black hair as it enhances the concept outlined earlier.
