ReMap Assignment

My class assignment was to choose a location and either design a map for it or revamp the old map. I chose my campus at the time, PrattMWP in Utica.
As a freshman, I found myself having a lot of trouble using this map to find the buildings and when printed out in black and white after going through multiple layers of photocopy distortion, it was near impossible to understand what building was which.
I decided to make the map isometric like many modern cell shaded apps are. From my research, I found that designs like these are more appealing and easier to understand than silhouettes.
Because the campus was so small, I focused on creating what I called a "Walking Map". This map had no street names so it wouldn't be helpful when driving through but had clear images of the buildings as landmarks so that if you were walking around with this map, you could pin point where you are based off of which building you were next to.
I based the colors off of the actual buildings but kept the palette tighter and reused grays to make it look more coherent.
A big part of the map that I felt was very important was that I included what facilities where in which building. When I was a freshman, I didn't realize where was a computer lab in the basement of one of the studios I had class in every day or that there was parking behind another building that my friends didn't know about.

Knowing your resources and their location was my main objective with this map.
