Airport Color Theory Project

So my piece is a painting of two giraffes. One is a baby and one is a mother and their heads are snuggled next to each other. I used a mixture of water color paint and acrylic to complete this painting.
The principles of art I used was contrast in the different sizes of the giraffes and I used pattern for the spots on their fur. I had proportion in the painting to distinguish the difference in size and age of the giraffes. My main focus point was obviously the giraffes and that they are showing affection to one another.
I used a blue color in the background to have a plain and simple affect so the background wouldn’t be distracting to my focus point being the giraffes. I would hope that the mood of the piece would make people feel joy and love when they see my painting because the emotion the giraffes are showing is love. I would want it to have a nice calming impact on people when they walk past and see it so they feel comforted.
In my opinion I think I did a better job on my rough draft than my final. I wish I didn’t decide to all of a sudden use acrylic paint for the background when I originally had just the blue watercolor. I did that because I made a mistake and there was some paint that got splattered on my painting. Overall I think I could’ve done a better job and really focusing on the detail of the giraffes and blend out the colors more. I’m not too upset with the painting because I think the actual drawing was good. But maybe next time have more practice with watercolor as I found it difficult to use.
