Dreams: An Exhibition

Dreams: An Exhibition
Every day, people journey between reality and the realm of dreams.

Yet, how much do we really know about dreams?

In this exhibit, I explored the various meanings of the word, "dreams", in a linear narrative spanning multiple artworks and mediums. Each piece explores a different aspect of how my own self is affected by dreams, from my darkest fears to my biggest aspirations.

Shore (2018)
In this first piece, I am caught between the waking world and the realm of sleep.

On a shore, I lay wrapped in a blanket of waves, as a darker wave of deep sleep comes closer, crashing down at any moment.

The moment that wave comes down on me marks the beginning of my journey into the realm of dreams
Daydreaming (2018)
Panic and Pandemonium In The Person's Psyche (2017)
However, freedom is a double-edged sword.

My mind may be able to enjoy its joyous fantasies,
but that leaves the door open for all my insecurities and
deepest fears to rush into the surface and take hold.
As my darkest thoughts start to surround me and
twist my dream into a horrible nightmare, all I can do
is to try and escape these thoughts.

But to no avail, as the nightmare starts to suffocate me,
I am eventually consumed by the darkness.
Sink (2018)
As the darkness swallows me whole, a single thought comes to form.
"It's just a dream."
With that in mind, I accept my reality
Tomorrow (2019)
Now that I know that I am in a dream,
I have full control over it.
So, I dream of the most amazing fantasy I can think of.
A Day In My Life (2019)
I dream of the characters I admire,
the people I idolized,
and how my heroes shaped
what I was, what I am,
and what I could be.
Wander (2019)
Whatever the future holds, whatever person I become,
whatever fears I may still hold, whatever wishes I may hope,
at least just for tonight's journey into my own dreams,
I know what I am for now.
I am at peace.
Snooze (2018)
As a new day dawns and the morning alarm goes off,
I wake up from a night of respite.
More than that, I wake up aware of who I am.
All my fears, insecurities, fantasies, and hopes...
...my dreams.
