“GARBAGE IS NOT GARBAGE, GARBAGE IS TO CONSTRUCT NEW THINGS”
FRANK ALSEMA

The World population is 7.7 billion people.  Each person products 1.2 kg garbage every day. It gives 9.12 billiards kilograms for a year. According to research, if we won’t take an action to repair the environment situation in our planet, in 2030 horrified climate changes will happen. Currently in the World there is no good initiative for solving the problem. The policy is based on transfers trash from rich to poor countries which has terrible trash management and don’t recycle what they receive.  Every minute, one garbage truck worth of plastic is dumped into the ocean. According to World Economics Forum report in 2050 there will be more plastic bags than fishes in the ocean. Garbage affects on the Earth, on environment and  finally on each of us. In 1997 between Hawaii and California was discovered Great Pacific Garbage Patch. In practice the trash island has been formed by the Earth's wind patterns and the forces created by the rotation of the planet which accumulate trash in one place. It is not the only trash island in the World. Plenty of them is located on very popular touristic places- well known from their beautiful beaches like Maldives and Bali. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch has around 1.6 million square meters which is the same as the area of the biggest State in the USA- Alaska. In this area is accumulated 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic which is 80 thousand tons of garbage. That huge amount of trash is floating in the water instead of being recycled and converted because of ignorance the problem by the authority.
To make an attention on garbage problem, the Sassy Campaign made a nationality of Trash Island, which doesn’t have official inhabitants or any living area or infrastructure. The island has a lot of potential building material, which we could use.  Garbage can be converted in many different building materials. Using floating plastic from ocean we can build buildings made from trash. Our idea is to use all the garbage of Trash Island to create research complex located on the ocean. Garbage are causing the environmental pollution, so the complex will be designed for the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research Centre. The plan has three steps. First- collecting plastic to a floating gabion made of shipping containers. Each year 350 to 10 000 containers is dumped into the ocean. One container is able to contain 78 cubic meters. Second step is using shipping containers to construct the facade of the building. Inside containers are located offices, sleeping areas for employees and labs. The form of the building is based on the fishing float. It contains gabion, which ensure appropriate displacement of the building and mass-loading chamber, which load dawn the builidn and ensure stability of the all construction.
