Women, Roses and Landscapes, these are the elements that inspire me towards creating imagery for the sake of beauty. Combining it with use of the bee hive relates towards SCADS involvement in Lacoste, and how the community works together.  The bees relate towards the SCAD mascot as well. Having all of these elements integrate together, relates towards what I found interesting about the people and landscape of Lacoste. Seeing century old buildings intertwine with the landscape, while adapting to people living on the land for so many years was really fascinating to me. Playing with all of those elements was the main focus of this piece.

Aphrodite of Milos, better known as the Venus de Milo, is an ancient Greek statue and one of the most famous works of ancient greek sculpture. Created sometime between 130 and 100 BC, it is believed to depict Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love and beauty. The arms and original pinthe were lost following its discovery. The statue is named after the Greek island of Milos, where it was discovered. I was drawn towards such depictions of Aphrodite being birthed from the sea, rising out from a clam. I liked the idea of the moment of arrival as well as a figure who defined all beauty.

Working around one particular object or person, the idea was to allow the elements around them to sculpt and create movement around it. In this case those objects were skull fragments, I wanted them to be centralized around the one particular object, a skull.

 

Heaven and Hell are represented in my own interpretation of their ruler as well as their thrones.
