Mina Turbic's profile

Reversible Necklaces

"Just as it takes time to fully understand a building's architecture, how the subtle nuances of light, shadow and surface decoration contribute to its drama, so, too, does Mina's daring and original work require serious investigation to bring its complexities to light. Her necklaces evoke Egyptian collars whose broad spans encircle the neck in strong but feminine geometric designs. Mina deliberately engineers each component to act as dual-functioning both decorative and functional. "I try to capture the magic of things and make it visible, which result in somewhat unconventional designs that are both contemporary and poetic. My necklace design reflect a relationship with architecture influenced by details. I am most interested in arranging forms in a space, playing with lines and solids, and finding a fine balance. There are no connectors (jump rings) in my necklaces. When designing I always keep in mind how things are going to be connected, usually by hooking one piece on to the next."
