I decided to join the internet hype of doing Bowsette Art. I used the photo reference of a cosplayer to create the facial features of Bowsette.  I want to create a look that pulls her out of the more anime-like design she carries from the Mario games and some other artwork I've seen of her. I also wanted to maintain the sex appeal of the character without becoming too adult, so I wanted to choose a facial expression and look that creates an alluring feeling.
Once I've developed the form and cleaned my linework, I'm ready to plan my color layouts. I use flat colors to aid in my decision process as I may change my mind on what colors I'd like to use before adding detail. For example, I want the corset top that she wears to have the look of black leather without actually using Black as a color. I played with variations of blue and purple until I settled on the best color.
After I've made my final decisions on the colors I intend to use, I add shadows and highlights to bring life to Bowsette. I decided the direction of the light source and strategically placed highlights an shadows accordingly. I want the highlights to accentuate certain assets of Bowsette to boost her allure and sex appeal. Then I clip the background with a white border and add a color gradient to give the original artwork a platform to stand out and keep the background simple.
