Ampalaya Packaging Prototype

For Production Methods II, our class instructor assigned the class with different vegetables to design a packaging for. Bitter gourd ended up as my assignment.

This packaging was wade with cheap board, colored corrugated paper, and a sheet of acetate. The goal was to design a packaging that would provide protection for the vegetable, would be easy to display as a group at groceries which meant a packaging design that would be easily and efficiently arranged together.

The shape of the packaging was designed in a trapezoidal shape to help the vegetable to stand sturdily.
The sheet of acetate was designed with several slits to accommodate the bitter gourd's variation in shape and size. The acetate provides a "skin" to protect the vegetable while the transparency of the acetate also allows the customer to assess the vegetable for his/her satisfaction. The ear-like flaps on both sides of the acetate sheet are easily removable for the buyer to access the bitter gourd.

I chose to use the colored corrugated paper to provide additional firmness to the packaging without adding unnecessary weight and cost if I were to use a thicker cheap board instead. Other than this reason, the corrugated paper also provides color which could also help enhance the brand's identity among other items on display at the grocery shelves.
