La Palette de Fromage

La Palette de Fromage Restaurant
La Palette de Fromage is an automat charcuterie that lets guests customize their perfect picnic plate. By using touch screen kiosks to order and streamlining the process by eliminating many choices while ordering, the project increases restaurant efficiency and significantly reduces or eliminates traditional queue lines. Guests simply choose how many items they want on their board and are dispensed with an RFID board with that information. Guests can then take their board to the different stations, Bread, Cheese, Meats, and Market, and make their individual choices. By utilizing an automat-style cubby system with individual portions inside, guests can customize their board however they wish, and make confident choices without worrying about dietary restrictions. Guests will simply scan their RFID board to unlock each of their chosen cubbies until they have used up all their items. With their choices finalized, guests can go enjoy their picnic in the indoor-for-outdoor Parisian courtyard, either sitting at one of the cafe tables, picnicking on the turf lawn, or hidden away in one of the sensory sensitive dining alcoves. As they eat, guests can enjoy a view of the projection mapped sky, animated with moving clouds and flying hot air balloons or twinkling lights and sparkling stars, or watch the animated windows of the cafe and storefront facades that line the courtyard. This project is intended as a fully immersive journey into Paris that everyone can enjoy.

Our prompt asked us to eliminate traditional queue lines and focus on accessibility. We designed our kiosk and automat-based system to eliminate lines and increase accessibility with accommodations and non-verbal way finding elements such as colour and pattern. We have ADA accessible kiosk interfaces and automat cubbies, as well as a fully accessible courtyard dining area. To help address the commonly overlooked concern of dietary restrictions, we implemented our individual customization automat method and made ingredient lists easily accessible. We also designed secluded alcoves in our dining courtyard that reduce sensory stimulants like noise, light, and animation, for those with sensory sensitivities such as autism, ADHD, and PTSD.

This project was created with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, XD, Madmapper, and Revit. The logo and projection images were created in Photoshop then brought into Illustrator to become laser cutting files. The user interface was created in Photoshop then animated into a mockup in Adobe XD. The projections were done by bringing the Photoshop images into After Effects for animation, then projecting them using Madmapper onto a foam core white model made with the Illustrator cutting file. The floor plan and model of the restaurant and courtyard was built in Revit.
