Final Major Project (Saving Bees)
For my Final Major Project, I chose to focus on creating a way for people to be more knowledgable about bees and want to save colonies of bees. I chose to have a target audience of children, this way I can make learning about bees fun by creating an activity book, and have an information book which would be used by adults to bring parents and children together to learn about bees.
I chose to illustrate the information book, and my style of Hyper-Realism would help bees, flowers, fruits and herbs, be more recognisable and help bees not look as scary as people believe they are. My main concern would be it wouldn't be the right style for children, but I had the opportunity to hold a meeting with a local Girl Guiding group to get children's opinion on the style, the girls loved the style and all said they would prefer to see a realistic style over cartoon.
In this project I created a logo; poster designs; information book filled of illustrations and information; an activity book filled with various activities to allow children to learn and have fun; a calendar with illustrations when each bee/flower/fruit will be appearing; seed packets for the flowers, and herbs; Polaroid cards featuring the illustrations as well as the scientific names for each; I also created a mock of a website on Wixsite.
For this project I used Photoshop to create all the illustrations, Illustrator to create the logo and the shapes featured in the posters, and InDesign to create the layout of the information book and activity book, as well as the polaroids.
