In this project the topic was to create a new type font. I chose the book “The Great Gatsby”, a mystery novel from the 1920s. This era was all about glamour and decorations.

In this project the topic was to create a new type font. I chose the book “The Great Gatsby”, a mystery novel from the 1920s. This era was all about glamour and decorations.
DESIGN
I created the font “Great Gatsby” which should be classic (trough the serifs) and decorative. Flowing lines and swirl ornaments help support that decorative look as part of the font and the overall look to fit the 1920s theme. Hidden in the ornaments you’ll see hidden eyes which are an important key element of the book. The glamorous aspect has been achieved with the combination of golden color on a dark blue background. All the other text is an adapted version of “Times New Roman”. I just lowered the cross bar and deleted parts of the serif element.
