Character - An Homage to Typography

Communication Objective

The following visuals explore the idea of a typeface with every character being in a different style. Due to the unique character of each letter and the focus on every individual character, the created typeface is called ‘character’.
The type specimen booklet was created to show the many possible diverse applications of the created typeface and to promote it and can be understood as an homage to typography. It is an experimentation with typographical image making. It shows that typography can be underrated and does not necessarily only function as a text transmitter, but can be a fascinating component by itself.
Creation Process

This project was developed during my studies at the Edinburgh College of Art and was my first typographic project ever.
First, I created 26 letters with black paper. Afterwards I scanned and vectorised them and changed little details or entire letters in Adobe Illustrator to ensure their uniqueness amongst the other letters. Afterwards I chose a common colour palette for the booklet to link the spreads together and experimented with different effects in Adobe Illustrator to create patterns and other graphical image making approaches. Finally, I chose the best ones and put the pages together in Adobe InDesign.
