Bipartisan Group Introduces Changes to OAA to Include

Arthur Godsell has served as president and co-owner of Godsell Construction Corporation in Hicksville, New York, since 1975. An active supporter of charitable organizations, Arthur Godsell of Godsell Construction is a contributor to the Alzheimer’s Association, an organization that leads the fight in the research and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

In March 2019, the U.S. House and Senate introduced a bipartisan bill that would make new changes to the Older Americans Act (OAA) designed to expand services to early onset Alzheimer’s patients younger than 60 years old. The OAA has been in place for more than 50 years, helping Alzheimer’s sufferers through government-supported in-home care, nutrition, family support, and other vital services. The law only offers those services to individuals older than 60 years of age, however.

The Alzheimer’s Association (AA) is officially supporting the new amendment that would expand eligibility for OAA services. These resources are vital to help overcome the obstacles that the some 200,000 individuals with the early-onset form of the disease often encounter, according to AA chief public policy officer Robert Egge. These changes to the bill must be approved before the full Congress and signed into law by the president before they can be enacted.
