Taylor Smith's profile

Corcoran Combat Boot

This project began in February 2016. It took over two years to get from project assignment to running production. At the time, it was the most extensive and involved development project I'd ever been assigned, including development of a new last, outsole, upper pattern, and removable insert.

Each failure I made throughout this project taught me the value of getting things right from the start and the necessity of understanding the full scope of the project. It's better to spend more time planning out the details at the beginning of the project rather than to lose time (and $) correcting mistakes throughout development.
Thanks to Camille Guo, Linda McGinley, Sean Naef, and the Vibram team; Allen Smith, Stacy Brinkman, Tom Iredale, and the Jones & Vining team; Jeff Blair, Bill Wenrich, Lee Elder, Holly Dixon, Ian Casher, Walt Harrold, Jon Lebo, Victor Sanders; Rob Kaminski for identifying problems with my design early in development, his suggestions to improve the overall quality of the boots, and his guidance throughout the project; All the dozens of technicians it takes to assemble each pair of boots at Cove Shoe in Martinsburg, PA
