L’ ispirazione per questo progetto è fortemente autobiografica, infatti, sin dalla tenera età, mi sono sempre sentita estranea al contesto culturale nel quale vivo. Affascinata dalla storia dell’eroina francese Giovanna d’Arco e, più in generale, dai racconti sulle streghe, mi sono sempre sentita una di loro. Il fatto di sentirsi libera, indipendente, di voler essere l’unico ingegnere del mio destino, di aver scelto un percorso di studi considerato poco concreto (soprattutto nel sud Italia) e di esprimere le mie opinioni, sebbene non sempre condivise, hanno fatto maturare in me la fantasia di poter essere bruciata viva da coloro che non hanno compreso le mie scelte di vita, rendendomi protagonista di una sorta di Santa Inquisizione 2.0. Il legno ha la duplice funzione, di rappresentare da una parte la base del rogo, dall'altra le radici della mia vita.
The inspiration for this project is strongly autobiographical, in fact, from an early age, I have always felt alienated from the cultural context in which I live. Fascinated by the history of the French heroine Joan of Arc and, more generally, by the stories about witches, I have always felt one of them. The fact of feeling free, independent, of wanting to be the only engineer of my destiny, of having chosen a course of study considered not very concrete (especially in southern Italy) and of expressing my opinions, although not always shared, have matured in me the fantasy of being able to be burned alive by those who did not understand my life choices, making me the protagonist of a sort of Inquisition 2.0. Wood has the dual function of representing the basis of the stake on the one hand, and the roots of my life on the other.
