Scriptoria Gift Set

Objective: The goal for this project was to create a special promotional gift set featuring multiple, related products. Additionally, the gift set required a form of added value whether through usability, consumer experience, or brand and product promotion in a unique and appealing concept.
Concept: For the gift set, I created a calligraphy stationery set to be targeted towards artists and crafters. This set is unique in that it includes both calligraphy and stationery supplies so that the consumer can create hand written notes and letters. The set includes blank cards and envelopes, a pen holder, black ink, three nib sizes, a wax seal with two colors of wax sticks, and a beginner's handbook. The design reflects calligraphy's own rich history with influences from the European Renaissance and illuminated manuscripts to create an elegant composition.
The design was inspired by the illuminated manuscripts of the European Renaissance by using a floral brocade pattern and rich colors. The package for the gift set consisted of a wooden case stained dark with vintage accents to also connect to this historical period. The wrap around the case secures the set while also providing further information of its contents. The interior utilizes partitioned compartments for each of the items to create an organized and sophisticated design.
The beginner's booklet included with the set provides an overview of the history of calligraphy, the different tools needed for working in this medium, the steps to getting started, as well as some key examples of calligraphy styles and how to execute them.
