Rope Necklace-Tubular Peyote (with in progres photos)

Rope Necklace-Tubular Peyote Technique (with in progress photos)

I started the peyote technique with a stop bead (a Hematite bead was used) and a odd number of 9 beads and weaving a circle twice, then tying the ends together in a double knot leaving a tail. Why 9 base beads? Two reasons, in odd peyote there is no step up to remember, a continuous spiral and 9 is a sacred number in the Norse pantheon.

I place the ring onto a small dowel rod and tape the wrapped tail down and to keep it's form while I bead to 14" in length for a short necklace. I remove the piece from the dowel rod and continue beading, skipping beads to a even and odd number to a tappered end. I finish by tying off on both tappered ends.

The hardware is added on both ends with a cone and a piece of linked chain. Weaving several times around and back threw the beadwork until the chain is secure. The lobster claw and rings are added to complete the necklace. This necklace can be worn alone or with a pendant. Most of my necklaces comes with a matching pendant.
